A Delaware residential tree care company that has served area residents for more than 40 years, Kerns Brothers Tree Service & Landscaping, has announced it has been acquired by The Davey Tree Expert Co. of Kent, Ohio.
Kerns Brothers has approximately two dozen employees providing residential tree care, plant health care and landscaping to its clients in the greater Wilmington area. It has deep roots in the Wilmington community and has worked on some of the most prestigious properties in the area. As the first Tree Care Industry Association accredited company in the area, Kerns has long placed a high value on training, education and safety.
“One of the things that drew us to Davey was the company’s emphasis on these same elements,” John Kerns said. “By aligning our company with Davey, our employees are assured a continuous path to more training and education, and our clients can be sure that the employees on their property are safe, educated and insured.”
“Furthermore,” Kerns continued, “I want to assure our clients that we will continue to provide reliable and exceptional service. Additionally, our clients can now benefit from more comprehensive service offerings, including access to the Davey Institute, an industry-leading diagnostic and research facility.”
Jim Stief, executive vice president, U.S. residential operations for Davey Tree, stressed that Kerns Brothers employees would also have more opportunities to grow as industry leaders. “We have no doubt they will benefit from Davey’s diversified service offerings, technology and equipment resources, research and development capabilities and of course the culture of employee ownership.”
Davey’s David Balint will be helping to manage the Kerns Brothers office during the transition. Balint is an International Society of Arboriculture certified arborist and currently manages Davey’s Aston, Pennsylvania office. He has more than 25 years of service with the company, and started as a landscape foreman before working his way through the ranks to district manager. He is a graduate of the Davey Institute of Tree Sciences, Davey’s premier training program in biological sciences, safety, tree and plant care and management techniques.
Phil Snyder, vice president of East Atlantic residential and commercial operations, pointed out that the addition of Kerns Brothers shows continued growth in the area, increasing the number of Davey area offices to four. “Kerns Brothers is a great company and we’re thrilled to have them join our team,” he said. “Both Kerns Brothers and Davey are actively involved in efforts to preserve and improve the health and beauty of our environment and are committed to supporting the highest professional standards.”
