In this WTEN Albany article, Joseph Oszust from Davey's Albany office talks about the most invasive species in the Capital Region and which trees are in the firing line.

During New York’s 11th annual Invasive Species Awareness Week, arborists and specialists are advising residents of the dozens of invasive species that exist right in the Capital Region.

"These pests have no natural enemy like our native pests and they attack our native trees,” said Joseph Oszust, a local arborist with the Davey Tree Expert Company.

Invasive species at the Pine Hollow Arboretum target both plants and trees. There are three trees Oszust pointed out on Wednesday, that are particularly in danger. These include the American Beech, White Ash and the Canadian Hemlock.

“This is an American Beech. The tree is infected with Beech Leaf Disease which is caused by a parasitic nematode that gets into the leaf and is killing off a lot of American Beeches," said Oszust.
