This summer in New York has brought record rainfall, flooding and now drought conditions in some parts of the state. On top of that, there has been excessive heat.
It’s also been the perfect conditions for what arborists are calling a triple threat. From ticks to the spotted lanternfly, which just about everyone in the agriculture industry has been following closely, there’s a lot to unpack.
Starting with ticks, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention says this year has been the highest for tick-related ER visits since 2017. You can get them in your backyard, especially if you have deer that wander through.
“Always [wear] long sleeves, long pants and boots," said Frank Thompson with Davey Tree. "There are some tips and tricks where you can actually tuck your pants into your socks. So that way, if a tick does get onto your boots, they don't come up immediately into your boot underneath your pant leg.”
