Town Of Plainfield, IN
DRG helped implement Plainfield’s tree management plan, including tree assessments, planting site inspections, scheduling tree removal and pruning, and ensuring quality control. DRG collaborated with Town staff, provided Arbor Day celebration planning, and worked toward Tree City USA designation.
Setting Urban Forest Goals
Davey Resource Group, Inc. (DRG) collaborated with the Town of Plainfield and other partners to implement Plainfield’s public tree management plan. This collaboration involved working closely with Town staff through regular meetings to discuss progress and tasks. DRG conducted a Level 2 assessment on 20% of the tree inventory and a Level 1 assessment on the remaining 80% to identify trees posing high risk and needing pruning or removal. DRG also inspected approximately 50 potential planting sites, recommended suitable tree species, and provided a list of these sites to Town staff.
Implementing a Management Plan
DRG scheduled the removal of about 50 trees and stumps, as well as the pruning of up to 570 trees. This process involved re-inspecting and marking trees and providing lists to Town staff for necessary notifications and bidding. The scope of tree maintenance was determined by available funds reported by Town staff. DRG also wrote work specifications for proposal requests to facilitate bidding and conducted quality control inspections of contractor work based on these specifications. Furthermore, DRG inspected, pruned, and performed root collar work on up to 425 young trees to support a healthy tree population. Finally, DRG met regularly with Town staff to plan an Arbor Day celebration and carried out activities related to achieving Tree City USA designation. This comprehensive approach ensured the effective management and enhancement of Plainfield’s urban forest.
