Maryland Zoo
Davey is on-site at the Maryland Zoo to prune trees for hazard reduction and treat trees for Emerald Ash Borer.
The Maryland Zoo, formerly known as the Baltimore Zoo, is a 135-acre attraction located in Druid Hill Park. Founded in 1876, the zoo houses over 130 species of animals, including birds, mammals, amphibians, and reptiles.
In a space combined with a local park, there is plenty of nature for visitors to enjoy. Since 2000, Davey has helped the Maryland Zoo ensure that its park remains a safe and welcoming experience for visitors and staff.
No Monkeying Around
Davey crews are on-site to perform tree care and plant health care. Walkthroughs are conducted quarterly and following storms to prioritize areas where trees need trimming, reducing hazards. Trees on-site are also undergoing their fourth round of treatments for Emerald Ash Borer.
Davey teams have also worked with the zoo to conduct a tree inventory, which has since been incorporated into the city’s tree inventory data, and helped with tree preservation planning during construction projects.
Community-Driven Partnership
The partnership between Davey and the Maryland Zoo is reciprocal. Davey is a sponsor for the zoo’s events, while the zoo allows Davey to use their facilities for training events.
The zoo is an essential part of the Baltimore community, partnering with local organizations and participating in local events. Davey understands the need for the zoo to stay accessible, safe, and looking its best at all times.
