Grant’s Farm

Since 2003, Davey has helped historic Grant’s Farm in St. Louis, MO foster a safe, family-centered park through tree pruning and plant health care.

Grant’s Farm has been a St. Louis staple since the 1850s. It brings family fun to the community on the 300-acre ancestral home of the Busch family, who purchased the property in 1903.

The farm is home to over 900 animals representing over 100 species from six continents. A visit to the park begins with a tram ride that snakes around the safari park, allowing visitors to interact with the animals on-site. Next stop is the Tier Garten, which has a petting zoo area, carousel rides, concessions, and a free beer tasting. Stables for the famous Budweiser Clydesdales, the former home of President Ulysses S. Grant, and the Busch family home are also on the property.

Grant’s Farm is a popular attraction with over 500,000 visitors annually, making safety a top priority. Davey helps with that endeavor, ensuring the park is safe for visitors, staff, and animals through tree and plant health care.

Taming The Wilds Through Tree Care

Davey crews have been on the farm since 2003. They prune trees around the tram paths, visitor areas, and the Busch family home to reduce safety hazards and treat ash trees on-site for emerald ash borer. Crews also trim trees at the Clydesdale stables, clearing the barn and pastures of hazardous limbs.

Crews need heightened awareness while working in the safari park that houses free-roaming animals. They keep a close eye on equipment to ensure no animals are harmed or equipment is damaged while they work.

In 2023, Davey Resource Group conducted a tree inventory at Grant’s Farm to provide vital information about the tree species, size, and location on-site, which helps the attraction monitor its trees’ health and pruning needs. The Davey Nursery supplied over 400 trees to the farm to replace trees that presented safety risks throughout the park.

Making Safety A Top Priority

Beyond tree and plant health care performed at Grant’s Farm, the farm also allows Davey to use the site for safety demonstrations.

Davey and Grant’s Farm have developed a strong partnership based on trust and communication. We are proud to serve and support Grant’s Farm as they continue their tradition of excellence and deliver a family-centered, activity-filled park for St. Louis residents to enjoy.
