Adjoining the 85,000-acre Chassahowitzka National Wildlife Refuge, which borders the Gulf of Mexico, is an active residential community called GlenLakes. With country club amenities that span from a championship golf course to fitness classes to educational lectures housed in a 35,000-square foot clubhouse, GlenLakes residents can find their perfect mix of entertainment and relaxation right outside their homes.
The 18-hole, 6,782-yard championship golf course is the crown jewel of GlenLakes. The private course takes advantage of its mature oak and pine trees and rolling hills to create a luxurious course that allows members to enjoy nature while playing, all meticulously maintained by Davey Tree.
Since August 2021, Davey Tree has helped GlenLakes revitalize the golf course. With crews on-site daily to mow turf, spray weeds, fertilize, and prune trees, Davey was able to create a fresh space for GlenLakes members to play. Landscape installation and maintenance at the clubhouse also gave members a place to enjoy a brightly colored and verdant space.
On the course, Davey crews tend to more than turf. Daily cup changes, bunker rakings, and other course setup gives golfers a unique experience each visit. These tasks are done with care to the players, ensuring that no one is disturbed by the work during tee time.
Davey is also helping GlenLakes upgrade the irrigation system on the course from a hydraulic-controlled to an electric-controlled system, which will allow the club to maintain lush and vibrant turf while keeping costs and water use down. Over 480 sprinkler heads will be replaced in addition to 20 new sprinkler heads that will be installed strategically on the course to help keep playing areas that struggle during drought conditions watered.
