In this Hamilton Spectator article, Chris Deathe from Davey's Hamilton office shares winter storm tree damage tips to ensure safe cleanup.
While it may not compare to the great North American ice storm of 1998, Ontario’s most recent ice storm prompted a state of emergency in Peterborough, Muskoka and Simcoe counties, with widespread damage to tree canopies across cottage country.
Chris Deathe, district manager for Davey Tree Expert’s Hamilton branch, said 38 of the company’s crews were dispatched to heavily impacted areas north of Toronto, including Bracebridge, Peterborough, the Kawarthas, Barrie and Orillia, to deal with extensive ice storm damage. Crews have encountered downed trees and power lines.
Homeowners should contact their insurance agent first if they have an immediate liability like a fallen tree on their home or car, Deathe said. After that, an arborist should be the next person notified.
