CLEVELAND, Ohio – It’s been a brutal winter for northern Ohio with more snow and ice than in Walt Disney’s “Frozen,” and now that it’s pretty much over, it’s time to consider the potential damage inflicted on trees and shrubs.
Not by snow and ice, but all the rock salt spread on roads and walkways to make them safe.
Salt washes into surrounding green spaces and can ravage lawns, bushes and trees by invading the soil and preventing roots from sucking up the moisture they need to live, said Brad McBride, district manager for the Davey Tree Expert Co. on the West Side of Cleveland.
