Restoring Native Stream & Wetland Habitats At Owen Farm
The Owen Farm stream and wetland mitigation project restored over 8,565 linear feet of West Fork French Broad River and unnamed tributaries through an active beef cattle operation. Current Davey Resource Group (DRG) employees were previously responsible for site selection, conservation easement acquisition, baseline assessments, design and mitigation plan development, managing construction bids, and providing construction oversight. DRG currently provides monitoring and maintenance services through 2028. Monitoring tasks include conducting geomorphological surveys using an optical level and a total station, Wolman pebble counts, vegetative monitoring, invasive species management, stream and wetland hydrological data analysis using OnSet data loggers, GIS mapping, aerial photography via drones, beaver management, and providing reports to the North Carolina Division of Mitigation Services. RiverMorph is used to analyze geomorphological data. DRG employees have also coordinated and executed post-construction stream bank repairs and replanted areas disturbed during repairs.
