DRG removed invasives; installed coir logs, erosion control blankets, and native plantings; and added a stone fishing node to repair erosion, restore habitat, and improve water quality at The Lost Lake in Wildwood Park.
A Shoreline In Need
The Lost Lake shoreline in Wildwood Park was identified in the 2017 White Bear Lake Stormwater Retrofit Analysis as a top location for shoreline stabilization. The project goals include repairing the shoreline and improving Lost Lake’s water quality. The site had undercut banks, headcuts, and erosion along the shore, and it had historically poor water quality.
Regaining Control
Davey Resource Group (DRG) removed the existing, primarily invasive, vegetation and installed coir logs to stabilize the shoreline. The slopes were regraded and stabilized with an erosion control blanket. Native seed and 1,500 native plugs were planted, along with a handful of shrubs, to revegetate and stabilize the disturbed areas and provide habitat. A stone outcropping fishing node was installed to provide access to the lake without disturbing the restored areas. DRG will provide one year of maintenance to help establish the new plants.
The project was supported with funding from the Minnesota Board of Water and Soil Resources (BWSR) East Mississippi Watershed Based Implementation Funding (WBIF) Grant, and the Washington Conservation District created the design.
