Midwestern U.S. Natural Gas Company
When a Midwestern U.S. natural gas company needed support for their pipeline clearing project in Ohio, Davey was able to execute a turnkey program that fit their tight timeline.
The Challenge
A Midwestern U.S. natural gas company is responsible for maintaining 22,000 miles of natural gas rights-of-way (ROWs) across the diverse landscapes of Ohio. When the company launched a pilot vegetation management initiative in 2017, they looked for a partner who could provide a turn-key program.
The Solution
Davey successfully managed more than 34 miles of the company’s type-b gathering line ROWs during the pilot project, which led the company to awarding additional work on three large sections of ROWs set to start in 2019. These work areas were located in three large cities across nine counties in Ohio.
Davey Resource Group, Inc. (DRG) planned the work, including conducting easement research, identifying and communicating with property owners, mailing out pre-work notifications, and locating pipeline equipment on ROWs using handheld devices. Davey then deployed local crews to complete the maintenance work on the client’s tight deadline.
The crews removed any incompatible vegetation from the ROWs, including briars, brambles, and trees. They completed work on their awarded sections by March 2019.
The Results
The natural gas company was pleased with the work and awarded Davey additional contracts for ROW vegetation management in the fall of 2019.
A few weeks into the new work, the company increased Davey’s budget with the stipulation that the additional work needed to be completed in four weeks. Because of Davey’s substantial footprint, they were able to quickly source 92 team members to complete the work on time. By mid-December 2019, crews had already finished 75 percent of the work, surpassing the completion requirements.
With this collaboration, Davey was able to provide excellent services and prove their commitment to achieving their client’s goals.
