Westminster Memorial Park
Davey helped Westminster Memorial Park reduce water use, increase operational efficiency, and increase landscape sustainability by retrofitting 100-year-old water delivery infrastructure with new technology.
Westminster Memorial Park is an 80-acre cemetery in Westminster, CA. Designed and constructed in 1924, Westminster has multiple garden areas with unique memorial markers and plant life to reflect the surrounding community’s diversity.
Westminster has been in Orange County for 100 years and, in that time, has become a pillar of the community. To continue providing the city with its vital services, Westminster must ensure its infrastructure is always up to date.
In 2024, Westminster sought to upgrade its water delivery systems and enlisted the help of Davey to create a Master Plan.
Time To Freshen Up
Westminster had four wells on-site that provided water for irrigation. Two were shut down, and one was abandoned, leaving only one well and a pond to supply water to the cemetery’s irrigation systems. This caused half of the park to be irrigated manually using the city’s water supply.
Davey rehabilitated two wells and is working to bring a third online. New pumps were installed to automate the system and increase reliability with redundancy, helping to alleviate the need for a municipal water supply while supporting future cemetery development needs. The water team dredged the pond to alleviate years of sediment buildup and implemented eco-friendly solutions to suppress algae growth, improving water quality and aesthetics.
Davey also installed a smart irrigation control system that helps regulate irrigation cycles according to soil moisture levels, reducing the need for manual labor while making every drop of water count. This was paired with installing new wire and reconfiguring irrigation zones to increase distribution uniformly, which minimizes water usage while increasing plant life and curb appeal.
Reaping The Benefits Of Smart Irrigation
With the improved irrigation system in place, Westminster was able to reduce operational expenses and water usage while increasing the sustainability of its bright and vibrant landscapes in a way that highlights its environmental stewardship and honors the loved ones that rest in Westminster.
In 2025, Davey won the ASIC Excellence in Irrigation Award for the quality of their work, including project planning, design functionality, environmental responsibility, and relevance at Westminster Memorial Park.
