Cheekwood Estate & Gardens
Since helping Cheekwood after a severe winter storm in January 2026, Davey has maintained more than 3,000 trees in its expansive gardens and arboretum.
Built in the 1930s, Cheekwood Estate & Gardens in Nashville, TN features a historic mansion and 55 acres of cultivated gardens and vistas, serving as a botanical garden, arboretum, and museum for the public.
Once the family home of Leslie and Mable Cheek, investors in Maxwell House Coffee, Cheekwood’s historic landscape includes a 1.5-mile woodland sculpture trail, 13 distinct gardens, and a wide array of horticultural displays.
With such an expansive property that is completely open to the public, Cheekwood must ensure its trees are picture-perfect without posing any safety risk to visitors and staff. Davey brings expert tree care to Cheekwood to keep the property aligned with its landscape goals.
The Calm After The Storm
In January 2026, a severe winter storm hit Nashville and damaged trees on the grounds. After a vendor reference, Davey quickly mobilized crews from five different offices to help the estate clear storm debris and get Cheekwood back on its feet.
Davey’s expertise during that time led Cheekwood to partner with them on an as-needed basis. Davey helps the on-site arborists and gardeners with preventative maintenance on more than 3,000 trees, including regular pruning, cabling and bracing, and storm response.
Because of the estate’s varied plant material, Davey’s knowledge in a wide range of tree and plant species ensures Cheekwood’s gardens stay vibrant for visitors year-round.
Communication Is Key
The partnership between Davey and Cheekwood is built on mutual trust and communication, allowing Davey to provide its expertise to keep Cheekwood’s grounds safe for visitors without sacrificing beauty.
Davey understands Cheekwood’s plant-centered philosophy and works with the estate to ensure it remains aligned with its mission.
“I did not know [Davey] before they came to Cheekwood’s rescue. Whether you had a relationship with them before or not, I know they would bring the same level of professionalism, enthusiasm, and commitment they bring to Cheekwood,” says Jane MacLeod, President and CEO of Cheekwood Estate & Gardens.
