Chris joined Davey in 2016 as a Technical Advisor, adding the role of Tree Conservation Specialist in 2023. He previously worked in youth education on rock climbing, nature awareness, and wilderness survival; in plant health care production; and as a tree worker. He attended Virginia Tech, graduating Summa cum laude with a B.Sc. in Forestry, and an M.Sc. and Ph.D. in Crop and Soil Environmental Sciences, with graduate research topics ranging from mined land reforestation, to biochar utilization, to prescribed fire effects. Chris provides industry outreach through conference presentations and trade journals, plus company research, training programs, field diagnostics, and prescriptions for soil, water, and root zone management company-wide across the U.S. and Canada. He also directly supports plant health care operations in Virginia, DC, Maryland, Delaware, and Eastern Pennsylvania. Chris is co-founder of the Davey Institute of Tree Conservation, which connects and educates in-field professionals who conserve trees impacted by construction projects. He developed Davey’s comprehensive soil services training programs including using air tools, biochar, compost, and advanced liquid services. His research focusses on utilization of green waste for soil and water quality improvement and carbon sequestration. He is a regular instructor for Factors and Forces, DITS, and DIHS.
