Chris Marshall, an arborist and a district manager at The Davey Tree Expert Company in North Philadelphia, said homeowners can make landscaping changes to reduce the spread of these pests.
Ticks will be most prevalent in areas with taller brush, shade and moisture, specifically places that harbor rodents and small mammals that serve as hosts for ticks. This includes leaf piles, brush and stone walls.
“They’re going to be good areas to harbor rodents, small mammals, and sometimes even deer. And that’s where ticks are going to thrive,” he said.
