Ontario arborist Erik Benneter says leaves will likely start to show their fall colours later than in 2025 — but they could be more vibrant than usual thanks to a rainy summer.
“This year the rainfall has been above average, so the fall colour change should be a little later than last year, closer to the typical time for leaf colour change,” said Benneter, an ISA-certified arborist with Davey Tree in Ontario.
Last year, reduced rainfall caused trees to be under stress, resulting in colour change and leaf drop earlier than usual, he explained.
