Kent, Ohio – The Davey Tree Expert Company is proud to recognize 10 recipients and one of its safety programs with various Tree Care Industry Association (TCIA) safety awards and certifications.

Davey’s STAR (Safer Through Achievements and Recognition) Program has been awarded the TCIA Outstanding Company Contribution to Safety Award. The STAR Program focuses on recognizing safe actions and decisions before incidents occur. The goal is to shift the culture from loss control to achievement, interdependence and empowerment and to build safety leadership at every level of the organization by engaging with all employees within Davey’s Residential/Commercial service line. The program was launched in 2024.
Victor Osorno Bucio, Alberto Casa Esquivel, Juan Casas Esquivel, Gabriel Garcia, Milton Garcia and Erik Vega have been awarded the TCIA Outstanding Crew Contribution to Safety Award for volunteering to remain on duty during a severe New Year’s Eve storm and responding to a tree that made contact with energized power lines. The six men worked overnight in extreme weather and coordinated closely with PG&E, and ultimately restored the power.
Ashley Wise has been awarded TCIA Outstanding Individual Performance Award for recognizing a colleague choking and using her first first‑aid training to deliver back blows and the Heimlich maneuver to save her colleague's life.
Connor Hughes has been awarded the TCIA Standout Safety Certificate for spotting a roadside bush fire, contacting emergency services and using a fire extinguisher and Pulaski tool to contain the fire’s perimeter.
Nicholas Simpson has been awarded the TCIA Standout Safety Certificate for helping an elderly resident and their dog to safety from a fully engulfed fire. Simpson spotted the smoke, secured the work zone near energized lines, assisted the resident and dog and used portable extinguishers to slow the fire until firefighters arrived.
Kevin Ahn has been awarded the TCIA Good Samaritan Certification for assigning his client’s neighbor who was in respiratory distress. Ahn secured the job site, rushed to assist the neighbor, called 911 and remained with the man until paramedics arrived.
