The Village at Leesburg is a 1.2 million square foot, mixed-use, retail shopping, and dining center. The “live-work-play” environment seamlessly integrates office and living spaces with boutiques, restaurants, and entertainment.
Key features of the 55-acre site include a 145,000-square-foot grocery store, a 14-screen movie theater, a 45,000-square-foot LA Fitness, class A office space, free structured parking, 335 luxury apartments, and a robust events program that includes movies in the park, plaza parties, kid-friendly activities, and holiday events. The central feature of the site is a three-block boulevard where the Village at Leesburg holds four to five events per year, drawing approximately 3,000 people each.
The property manager wanted a cohesive, show-shopping landscape throughout the site, especially along the main boulevard. He understood that a high-quality landscape played a major role in attracting tenants, shoppers, diners, and visitors.
To make the Village at Leesburg cohesive, landscape crews introduced consistent pops of color accented by tropical elements for a “wow” factor. There are three flower rotations each year, including approximately 6,000 plants each rotation. The same types of plants and colors were woven into the landscape surrounding entryways, site monuments, and statues to dress up these high-impact areas and maintain the theme throughout the site.
Regular landscape maintenance is carried out by the five-person crew who is on-site once per week for mowing, mulching, pruning, weeding, turf care, etc. In advance of major events and during seasonal flower rotations, a larger team will join the crew to make sure the property is in top shape. Large amounts of traffic are always a factor at Leesburg, and crews must avoid numerous obstacles and signs, planters, and, of course, people and vehicles when performing work. Here, they use smaller sidewalk crews and equipment to get the work done safely.
