STORMWATER MANAGEMENT AND INVASIVE SPECIES CONTROL, HOMER GLEN, IL

Culver Park, Homer Glen, IL

DRG transformed a barren stormwater basin into a thriving ecosystem and trail system at Culver Park in Homer Glen, Illinois.

Project Narrative:

Davey Resource Group (DRG) was awarded a contract with Homer Township for stormwater management on a BMP retention basin at Culver Park. We installed limestone outcroppings and tapered the site slope to decrease the potential of erosion. Along the pond perimeter, we installed native wetland plants and grass plugs. A seed mix of wet and mesic prairie plants were distributed across the site, as well as erosion blankets where applicable.

DRG designed and installed a mulch pathway along the upland perimeter of the pond, featuring multiple pathways to the pond edge along the limestone outcroppings. An infographic sign signifying the importance of stormwater management was installed near the mulch trailhead.

DRG continues to steward the site through invasive vegetation management techniques. Mechanical and chemical control of invasives will be necessary while native species begin to establish throughout the site. DRG looks forward to the progression of this once barren stormwater basin into a thriving native ecosystem for residents of Homer Glen to enjoy.
