We’re back again for pollinator week to share more of the fascinating research we do at the Davey Institute. In this post, we are highlighting our work with another common pollinator: the monarch butterfly!
Dr. Adam Baker, research technician at the Davey Institute, studies the behaviors of beneficial and pest insects. As part of this research, Dr. Baker recently published a groundbreaking article that examines the effect that predators, both mammals and birds, have on monarch butterfly larvae during the breeding season. Dr. Baker also discusses another project where AI-powered drone imagery is being used to evaluate pollinator habitat along rights-of-way.
The collaboration among entomologists, ecologists, soil scientists and other researchers is helping build a more complete understanding of these ecosystems. Ultimately, this research helps inform best practices in the work we do at Davey to support pollinators and other wildlife. Enjoy and remember to support your local pollinators!
