Kent, Ohio – The Davey Tree Expert Company is the 13th largest employee-owned company in the U.S., according to a report from the National Center for Employee Ownership (NCEO).
The NCEO’s 2017 Employee Ownership 100 list includes the nation’s largest companies that are at least 50 percent owned by an employee stock ownership plan (ESOP) or other broad-based employee ownership plan.
Davey has been an employee-owned company for 38 years after employees purchased the company from the John Davey family. With over 9,000 employees, the company continues to progress and grow under the ESOP plan.
“The entrepreneurial attitude that accompanies employee ownership is a driving factor in Davey’s success,” said Pat Covey, Davey’s President and CEO. “Fostering and encouraging that employee-ownership culture is integral to the Davey Company’s continued growth and strong performance.”
Collectively, the top 100 employee-owned companies on the 2017 list employ more than 615,000 people. Across the U.S., there are about 6,700 ESOPs covering over 14 million participants, according to research conducted by the NCEO. Details on this research and more can be found at the NCEO’s website www.nceo.org.
