How does your garden grow? How about up?
Vertical gardening is the art of using empty vertical space to grow a bountiful garden that doubly enhances the functionality and aesthetics of an outdoor space. Instead of crawling along the ground, plants in a vertical garden grow toward the sun by climbing trellises, walls or other structures.
This method of gardening has become more popular in recent years, says Dan Stuppiello, divisional merchandise manager of Live Goods at The Home Depot.
“It’s a great option for people who are new to gardening and want to test the waters,” says Stuppiello. “Dealing with a few plants at a time is often simpler than testing soil and worrying about a larger garden space. It’s a great place to start if you’re interested in learning about plants.”
Vertical gardening isn’t just a smart option for novice gardeners looking to grow their green thumb, though. The versatility of ascending, multi-dimensional gardening increases the growing area available to any cultivator.
