Caton Creek Mitigation Bank
Davey Resource Group helped with the construction and continued monitoring of the Caton Creek Mitigation Bank project in South Carolina, the first stream and wetland mitigation bank in the area.
Bringing Mitigation Banks To Berkeley County, SC
Davey Resource Group (DRG) employees were contracted to conduct baseline assessments of streams and wetlands, design and develop the mitigation plan, manage construction bids, and provide construction oversight for the Caton Creek Mitigation Bank. This project was the first stream and wetland mitigation bank in the Low Country of South Carolina. The bank boundary contains five jurisdictional stream channels and approximately 25,000 feet of channel, including Caton Creek proper, which have been restored. Furthermore, nearly 5,000 feet of tributaries to Caton Creek were enhanced or preserved.
DRG currently provides monitoring services for the Caton Creek Stream and Wetland Mitigation Bank project. DRG's responsibilities include conducting annual monitoring tasks such as analyzing stream and wetland hydrological data using OnSet data loggers and conducting Geomorphological surveys using a combination of optical levels and total stations. RiverMorph was used to analyze stream geomorphological data. Annual monitoring reports were developed and submitted to the Charleston District United States Army Corps of Engineers. The final year of monitoring was completed in 2023, and it is anticipated that the project will successfully close out with a full credit release in 2024.
