KENT, OHIO —The Davey Tree Expert Company has added new branches onto its corporate tree through acquisition and market expansion in Raleigh and Cincinnati. This follows Davey’s acquisition of S&S Tree & Horticultural Specialists, the largest family-owned tree company in Minnesota and one of the most respected in the industry.
Green Tree Experts, Inc., of Raleigh, N.C., was merged into Davey Tree’s existing Raleigh office and will be managed by Davey’s Keith Wright. Jim Stief, executive vice president of U.S. residential operations, said that Davey is committed to strategic growth.
“These additions will strengthen Davey’s presence in both North Carolina and Ohio,” said Stief. “It will bring us additional regional business expertise, talented arborists and allow us to serve our customers better.”
A Shared Commitment
The acquisition of Green Tree is Davey's sixteenth in the past five years and is part of a larger growth and expansion strategy. Green Tree’s clients, accounts and employees have been merged into Davey’s existing Raleigh office.
Green Tree was established in 1982, and offered all aspects of residential tree care, including tree preservation, consultation and diagnosis and hazardous tree removal. Owner and founder Derek Green said he chose Davey Tree because the two companies both emphasize high-quality work, completed by hard-working and dedicated employees.
“The difficult decision to step back from the business was made easier knowing that Davey Tree shares our commitment to quality tree care and customer service,” said Green. “We also appreciated the company’s commitment to employee ownership, and the opportunities it provides to our employees.”
Double the Davey in Cincinnati
In a different area of the country, Davey’s effort to better serve its customers has resulted in opening another Cincinnati office. The existing office, run by Rick Hannah, will serve southern Cincinnati and the new office, managed by Jason Muchmore, will serve northern Cincinnati.
Stief stressed that Davey’s customers will also be better served by the additional Davey presence. “We will be better positioned to serve our existing clients,” Stief said. “With this new territory, we’ll have a group of individuals focused on a small, rapidly growing area.”
S&S: A Welcome Addition
Davey acquired S&S in the first quarter of the year. The St. Paul, Minn., company provides tree, landscape and lawn services and will continue to operate under its existing name as a division of The Davey Company. The addition of S&S means that Davey now has three offices in the greater St. Paul/Minneapolis region.
The company was established in 1976, when Steve Sylvester started the company as a general landscaping business. Today, the company includes more than 75 employees, many of whom are International Society of Arboriculture Certified Arborists.
“S&S was a welcome addition to Davey Tree,” said Stief. “Both S&S and Davey are actively involved in efforts to preserve and improve the health and beauty of our environment and are committed to supporting the highest professional standards.”
The Davey Tree Expert Company, with U.S. and Canadian operations in more than 45 states and five provinces, provides a variety of tree care, grounds maintenance and consulting services for the residential, utility, commercial, and government markets. Founded in 1880, Davey is employee-owned and has more than 7,000 employees who provide Proven Solutions for a Growing World. For more information, visit www.davey.com.
