Amy has always been passionate about natural resource management. She started her career as an intern for a coal mining company, then discovered Davey while helping the Aloha Arborist Association in Hawaii proctor ISA exams.
Her first position with the Davey Resource Group (DRG) was a construction arborist. She was promoted twice more before assuming her current role as area manager for DRG’s Utility Vegetation Natural Resource Management team.
“I’ve gotten further and further from [working directly with] trees, but given more of an ability to make a difference,” Amy says.
With Davey, she says, she never felt limited. “I love that [our leaders] provide opportunity,” she says. “I’ve always felt like they said, ‘If you want to do more, you can go ahead.’ I never felt like I wasn’t trusted.”
With supportive managers and decades of on the job experience giving her confidence, Amy says her gender hasn’t been a challenge she’s faced in the industry. “The last thing I want is to be given a job because I’m a woman,” she says. “I just want to earn the job because I’m the best person for that job.”
