High Line Canal Trail
Davey Resource Group coordinated with officials in ten Colorado communities to conduct a tree inventory on 64 miles of the High Line Canal Trail. DRG arborists conducted the inventory through the lens of risk management and health preservation of the High Line Canal Trail forest system.
Project Narrative:
Davey Resource Group, Inc. (DRG) was contracted from June to October of 2016 to provide a full tree inventory that identified necessary data to identify and manage 64 miles of the High Line Canal in Colorado. Along much of the High Line Canal Trail, trees and the canopy they create are very important to the natural experience for trail users. With this in mind, our professional ISA-certified arborists completed this inventory through the lens of risk management and health preservation of the High Line Canal trail forest system. The comprehensive tree inventory included the GIS location of trees, species identification, condition ratings, as well as maintenance priority and maintenance need.
Discovery Through Data
This project was special as in order to complete an inventory over 64 miles, extensive coordination was required. DRG coordinated with city officials and each of the ten local jurisdictions to create a collective uniform approach to the inventory. Additionally, as each section of the High Line Canal was owned by the corresponding jurisdiction, DRG worked to create a respective agreement and budget for each entity.

At the completion of the inventory, DRG delivered updated GIS information and maintenance recommendations to all local jurisdictions involved in this tree inventory, totaling 23,760 trees.
