Growing Success

In this story from the Chicago Tribune, a Davey expert explains why understanding how trees fail will help in picking the proper tree for your yard.

Pick the right tree

Your best bet is choosing a tree that's native to the area. You might think a palm tree would look great next to your deck, but if you live in Hibbing, Minn., that tree is doomed. Go to the nearest natural woodland, and see what's growing there. Talk to people at your local independent garden center. Also, think diversity. If you have several maples already, look for something else. People who peppered their property with ash trees years ago are now watching their land get denuded as those trees succumb to the emerald ash borer.
