The cicadas may be gone, but they left behind a parting gift.
Brown leaves are all over trees in Maryland caused by the BroodX cycle of cicadas.
Lou Myer, arborist with the Davey Tree Expert Company, knows all about what the bugs did to trees. During mating, the females etched out branches and laid their eggs in them. The eggs eventually fell back to the earth to start their life cycle again.
