Storm and Disaster Recovery Assessment

Storm and Disaster Recovery Assessment

Immediately after a major weather event such as a hurricane or ice storm, utilities rely on expert foresters to provide storm recovery services, which include assistance managing large numbers of crews dispatched to help restore power.

Storm recovery services typically include two components. First, utilities rely on supplemental workers and resources to help manage and coordinate utility vegetation and line crews, many of which are from outside the service territory or out of state. This may include checking in work crews at the staging site, managing tickets or work orders and accompanying crews as they do work to ensure it is performed safely and accurately. Second, storm recovery services include damage assessments of vegetation, lines or other assets to identify and prioritize work required to most efficiently restore power and improve reliability.

When a storm approaches, DRG communicates with the client to anticipate needs and build the most appropriate storm roster of personnel who can immediately travel to the needed location. Once on site, DRG personnel quickly act on assigned duties. Additionally, we can utilize the Davey ROWKeeper software to help with data collection and reporting.

Unlike the competition, DRG can provide a large number of people for both vegetation and asset management needs as we have an extensive nationwide team that reliably delivers safe and efficient work.

Support Personnel

When responding to a major weather event, utility companies often require additional resources, particularly through support personnel. Such supplemental workers help manage and coordinate utility vegetation and line crews, many of which travel from out of state to aid in efforts to restore power to energy customers.

Support personnel provide tasks such as checking in work crews at the staging site, managing work orders and accompanying crews to ensure they complete jobs safely and accurately.

When a storm is imminent, Davey Resource Group communicates with the utility client to anticipate needs and build the most appropriate storm roster to quickly deploy to where help is needed most. Once on site, DRG personnel rely on their decades of storm response experience to rapidly and accurately execute their assignments. DRG not only can provide a large number of support personnel for vegetation needs, we can assist with asset management concerns – all through our vast nationwide team that works with safety and efficiency in mind.

Storm Hardening

Storm hardening identifies areas where maintenance is necessary to improve a utility system’s ability to withstand a major weather event. This includes vegetation removal along right-of-ways and improvements or reinforcements to poles where power lines connect to critical infrastructure, which includes essential services such as healthcare facilities and emergency responders.

Davey Resource Group performs data collection and assessments in the field to identify conditions that meet the utility’s storm hardening criteria. Unlike its competitors, DRG has a substantial team of vegetation and asset management experts who can provide comprehensive storm hardening services.
