Davey Resource Group was retained by Yellow Creek Watershed Alliance to conduct an Engineering Feasibility Study funded by the Indiana Department of Natural Resources Lake and River Enhancement (LARE) Program. The purpose of the study was to evaluate the feasibility of potential projects that would address water quality concerns and produce conceptual designs for feasible projects in the 6,535-acre Yellow Creek Lake Watershed located in Kosciusko County, Indiana.
Two shoreline stabilization projects were determined to be feasible including stabilization of the severely eroding south shoreline of Yellow Creek Lake and moderately eroding peninsula on Beaver Dam Lake. Factors evaluated to determine feasibility and develop stabilization plans included environmental constraints, landowner willingness, cost, and permitting requirements. Davey Resource Group produced conceptual drawings, implementation cost estimates, and implementation and maintenance plans for each project.
The conceptual shoreline stabilization plans and other data provided by the study will enable the Yellow Creek Watershed Alliance and other stakeholders to make informed decisions regarding implementation of best management practices and other projects to improve water quality in the Yellow Creek Lake Watershed.
