Ryan Means is currently employed with Davey Resource Group working on the PG&E contract in Area 4 – Los Padres Division. He has worked for Davey Resource Group for three years and held his current position as Senior Consulting Utility Forester for two years. During his employment, he has worked as a pre-inspector and manager of the distribution and transmission lines throughout PG&E’s Area 4 – Los Padres Division. As a Senior Consulting Utility Forester, Ryan works closely with Davey Resource Group’s client PG&E and their vegetation department as well as local municipalities and state agencies to comply with state laws regarding vegetation management and power line clearance. Day-to-day tasks include meeting with clients and customers, auditing, training, and managing the pre-inspecting utility foresters. In addition to his work on PG&E, Mr. Means participated in two transmission projects, Oncor Power in Texas and Bonneville Power Association in Oregon/Washington. During these projects, he trained co-workers, established transmission line rights of way, identified hazard trees, and inspected transmission lines per agency specifications. Prior to working for Davey Resource Group, Mr. Means worked as a Groundman and Apprentice Lineman for Southern California Edison – San Joaquin Valley District for two and a half years. There, he learned a great deal about utility construction, utility hardware, building specifications/procedures, and power line safety. Mr. Means graduated from Grossmont College in San Diego, CA with an Associate’s degree in 2001. He is currently studying for his ISA Arborist Certification and will be taking the exam in July 2010. After completing the Arborist exam, he will be taking the Utility Specialist exam at the earliest available time.
