"I really love Davey’s history. This is the oldest and best tree care company in the United States. It’s amazing to think that more than 120 years after it began, it is still going strong – and I’m one of the many people who carries the torch."

Shawn Bruzda is a believer.

While a biology student at Kent State University, he repeatedly heard praise of The Davey Tree Expert Company. Now as an employee of Davey Resource Group, Davey’s consulting division, he has experienced the variety of opportunities and the satisfaction that comes with it.

"People take great pride in their jobs, whether they’re cutting grass or the president of the company," Bruzda says. "At Davey, it’s all about you."

Bruzda, an International Society of Arboriculture certified arborist, joined DRG in 2000 as an inventory arborist and now works as a senior urban forester/biologist throughout the eastern half of the country. He’s enjoyed working on such projects as a tree inventory throughout Arlington National Cemetery, a tree assessment at the Audubon Zoo and Park in New Orleans, just months after Hurricane Katrina, and a street tree inventory of the entire city of Buffalo, N.Y.

"With Davey, you’re not just pigeonholed into one area. The sky is the limit," says Bruzda, who previously served in the U.S. Army Reserve and performed graves registration, water purification, and other quartermaster duties during Operation Desert Storm. "At DRG, this has definitely proven to be true because I do all kinds of different things. Getting stuck in the bump and grind would drive me crazy. Here, I love my work and my coworkers, and we feed off each others’ knowledge."
