Working to Uphold the Reputation as “The Reliable One”

Nearly 50 Davey men and women service approximately 1,300 miles of distribution line and 200 miles of transmission corridor for Orlando Utilities Commission (OUC). The commission, which has been named four times as the most reliable electric utility in the Southeastern United States, provides services to customers in Orlando, St. Cloud and parts of Orange and Osceola counties in Florida.

Davey crews have assisted OUC since 1992, overseeing the transition of schedules and programs and adapting to new compliance programs.

The Davey team is working to ensure standards for OUC's Transmission Vegetation Maintenance Plan set forth by the North American Electric Reliability Corporation (NERC) and the Florida Reliability Coordinating Council (FRCC), which regulates and oversees energy industries. These include guidelines on vegetation management along rights of way. The current project includes trimming along the transmission right of way during a three-year period.

Crews also maintain OUC's distribution system on a four-year schedule. As part of their Storm Hardening plan, they currently are 20 percent ahead of schedule and intend to continue such progress in preparation of upcoming hurricane seasons.

The OUC crews' success proves Davey Tree's ability to adjust to changes in the utility industry while serving a customer's needs to the highest level of quality.
