The Cuyahoga Remedial Action Plan (RAP) commissioned a study of wetlands within the Cuyahoga County portion of the Cuyahoga River watershed. The study included all undeveloped lands and involved both fieldwork and interpretation of orthophotographs. A GIS database was created from the data showing all wetlands and their attributes. The data were widely distributed to stakeholders and are intended to inform the planning process and serve as a resource for environmental planning and land use decisions in the watershed.
Wetlands data compiled and mapped included:
- Wetlands type, location, and size;
- Dominant plant species;
- Presence or absence of invasive plant species; and
- Opportunities for enhancement, restoration, or preservation.
The project steering committee included members of the Cuyahoga RAP and various other public agencies. As the data were compiled and analyzed, numerous meetings were held during which the steering committee identified key issues and was informed of the progress of the project.
The study concluded with a written report and public presentation. The report detailed specific preservation, restoration, and enhancement opportunities. The oral presentation was given to Cuyahoga RAP staff, members of the project steering committee, and other stakeholders.
