Central Electric Cooperative: Field Inventory

Central Electric Cooperative, Inc., needed a complete field inventory of its electrical distribution system. To get the job done right, they turned to Southeastern Reprographics, Inc., a unit of Davey Resource Group (DRG).

DRG collected all asset data associated with poles, meters and underground equipment of Central Electric, based in Parker, Pa. The data included pole size and class, ownership, pole top assembly codes, joint-use attachments, conductor size and phasing, and equipment size and type.

The data was tied to a sub-meter accurate global positioning system (GPS) point and then entered into the National Information Solutions Cooperative (NISC) geographic information systems (GIS) software package.

The work, which lasted about 18 months, along the cooperative’s approximately 3,225 miles of distribution line was completed in the fall of 2007.

Central Electric is a rural electric system that serves nearly 25,000 members in portions of Allegheny, Armstrong, Butler, Clarion, Forest, Mercer, and Venango counties. It is the second largest rural electric cooperative in the state of Pennsylvania.
