Charlie Chapman had always imagined himself working in the woods, so his career in urban forestry was unexpected and almost thrown away - literally.
“All woods jobs were seasonal,” he said. “I had responsibilities I had to take care of with my family. I had heard about Davey and kept hearing about Davey. I realized when my son was 15, and I was looking at paying college tuition soon, that I needed to work for a company with benefits and that offered a stable job. I saw the ad but procrastinated in applying. When I finally did, I had to fish it out of the garbage.”
Chapman is glad he did. Since joining Davey in 1988, he has held various positions from trimmer to supervisor out of the New London, N.H., Utility Services office. He now is account manager in Vermont. He says he appreciates the diversity of jobs the company offers and the opportunities for advancement.
