Each day working for Davey Tree is different for Boyd Moore, and that’s something he loves most about his job.

"Every day is a new adventure," says Moore, the corporate shop supervisor who has been with the company since 1984. "There’s always something different going on, whether it’s helping guys out in the field, addressing equipment problems or answering questions about maintenance."

Moore has applied the skills he learned as a vehicle mechanic and during his service in the U.S. Marine Corps, which he joined after initially applying for a job with Davey and learning there were no openings. Four years later, with newly acquired knowledge about aviation hydraulic systems and cranes, he got a job with the tree care company. Over the years, he has not only fixed and maintained Davey equipment, but he has rebuilt, or "Davey-ized" such vehicles as timberjack log skidders and track vehicles.

He says he strives to always be upbeat, especially toward employees who call him with equipment problems. His positive energy often is infectious.

"Usually when they call, they’re having problems and aren’t always in the best of moods," he says. "I figure it’s easier to be cheery than grumpy."
