"I only had to work for the company for a short time before I realized what a positive impact I could make, not only for the company but for myself as well. Being a leader is very important to me because I really want to make sure that I enjoy my job and set that same example to others."
Mike Horneber believes that his job with Davey utilizes his best talents and qualities.
Horneber, a regional safety specialist who works in Michigan, says his primary concern is that he and his coworkers are safe on the job.
“I have a family at home, and I really want to make sure that I can come home at the end of the day,” he says. “I realized early at my time at Davey that what I do can affect a lot of people and a lot of families. That is what I like best, making sure that the people that work at Davey go home at the end of the day to their families.”
He takes pride in protecting what he says is the best part of Davey – the hardworking employees.
Horneber joined Davey in 1999 as a Utility Services groundsman, dragging brush and chipping, but he initially wasn’t expecting a long-term career with the company. Now he encourages motivated and goal-oriented individuals to consider applying for a job with Davey.
“Davey didn’t become the best by simply doing nothing,” he says “They are focused and smart and treat people the way they need to be treated in order to keep us moving forward.”
