Davey Resource Group (DRG) is helping Oklahoma Electric Cooperative (OEC) with its GIS tree inventory update and line clearance work planning and notification.
Since March 2006, DRG has provided an International Society of Arboriculture (ISA)-certified utility forester to survey more than 3,500 miles of line for OEC. Our forester stays ahead of tree trimming crews, notifies customers of nearby work, pursues tree removal permission from customers, obtains needed permission from residents whose properties contain hazard trees, and records tree data in the field.
Beyond prescribing routine maintenance work to be done, OEC also uses this information to determine the workload across its system and budget for high-priority tasks.
DRG work planners carry pen-based computers loaded with base maps from the utilitys geographic information system (GIS). They develop electronic maps for vegetation management crews and electronically store information regarding vegetation conditions. Prescribed maintenance is issued to the crews in a work order, accompanied by a local map, which allows for easy work progress tracking and post auditing. Completed work is entered into a central database, ROWKeeper, where summary reports can be generated by DRG and OEC.
OEC was founded in 1937 and serves about 45,000 members across Cleveland, Pottawatomie, Grady, Canadian, Oklahoma, and McClain counties. It is headquartered in Norman, located about 20 miles south of Oklahoma City.
