The devastation during 2005 Hurricane season is something many Americans, and many Davey crews, will not soon forget. From north to south, from west to east, hundreds of Davey employees saw the destruction first-hand as they were first to arrive on the scene to repair the damage.
When Rita and then Katrina swept through, crews traveled to the damaged regions of Mississippi, Louisiana, Texas and Alabama, some from as far away as Wisconsin, Ohio, California and Pennsylvania.
Rita’s wind damage was intense and left extreme devastation. Travel to these areas presented a huge challenge for utility crews charged with storm cleanup. For some it took six hours to travel 120 miles because of massive traffic jams and debris.
When Katrina hit, conditions dramatically worsened, but Davey crews were still first to respond to homeowners in the hurricane’s path. From high heat to long hours; from sleeping in tents to being away from their families for weeks on end; Davey crews endured to ensure that customer needs were met.
