"The work is demanding but also gratifying. When you come to work for Davey, be prepared to be challenged on a daily basis, to improve yourself. Don’t be afraid to think outside of the box and to encourage others to do the same."
Dan Howse’s positive feelings toward Davey Tree go back further than the day he started with the company.
While working previously as a landscape architect, Howse hired Davey to perform several large tree moving installations throughout the country. He was impressed by the enthusiasm Davey workers had toward their jobs and projects. Years later when he sought a job change, “Davey was one of my first choices,” he says.
Howse, married with twins, is the assistant branch and business development manager for Davey’s National Large Tree Moving operations out of Houston. He says he is impressed by the experience and knowledge his colleagues possess. “After I went to the managers meeting in Florida in January, I knew I had made the right decision to come to Davey. When I looked at the name tags and saw the tenure our managers have, it was amazing.”
Howse has worked on a variety of impressive projects, including a move of 50 live oaks that ranged in size from 14 inches to 26 inches in caliper on a private Austin, Texas, residence and a transplant of seven large pin oaks on the University of Virginia’s Wise campus. He is currently working with several landscape architecture firms across the United States to develop large landscape plans for projects in the Northeast, which are scheduled to begin planting in 2008.
