Eric George is an urban forester and project manager with experience in both traditional forestry and urban forestry projects. He has served as the site manager for several large-scale municipal street tree inventories such as Springfield and Worcester, Mass., New York, N.Y., and Orlando, Fla., and many other communities in the New England and Mid-Atlantic region. Recently, Mr. George has coordinated additional street tree inventory projects in Massachusetts using Mobile Community Tree Inventory (MCTI), a component of the U. S. Forest Service’s state-of-the-art, peer reviewed, urban and community forestry analysis and software suite called i-Tree. Additionally, Mr. George has a comprehensive knowledge of ArcView™, Trimble® GPS field equipment, and a working knowledge of many types of computerized data collection tools. Mr. George has extensive experience with the urban forest of New York City. In spring 2006, he worked as a field technician on the Asian Longhorned Beetle Cooperative Eradication Program in New York City. In spring 2008, Mr. George worked as a field supervisor and contract representative to the USDA for the entire Queens portion of the program. From July to November 2006, he oversaw a city-wide street tree census for the New York City Department of Parks & Recreation. In this role, Mr. George supervised eight field technicians who collected data on approximately 113,000 publicly owned trees in the burroughs of Queens, Brooklyn, Bronx, and Staten Island. From December 2007 to February 2008, Mr. George oversaw a complete tree inventory for Central Park in Manhattan. He and his team used a combination of GPS and GIS technology to locate and inspect more than 24,000 trees throughout the park. The trees were inspected for species identification, condition, and historical value to help the Central Park Conservancy maintain, preserve, and improve this premier urban park. Mr. George is a Certified Arborist (NE-6360A) through the International Society of Arboriculture and a New York State Certified Pesticide Technician, Category 3a. Mr. George graduated from the University of Vermont with a bachelor of science in forestry.
