Why Budget for Tree Maintenance?

Grass may grow faster, but trees represent the biggest landscaping asset a commercial property can boast, both in size and value.

Like any other plant, trees require regular care to thrive. And, unlike ground cover, trees that are not properly maintained can create a potential hazard through falling limbs. They also are more expensive to replace if neglected beyond rehabilitation.

Without monitoring, trees can develop large portions of dead wood that go unnoticed until limbs start to fall. An arborist can help establish overall tree health by identifying areas for pruning and analyzing hazards each tree may pose based on location. Trees in high-traffic areas, particularly where vehicles or people congregate, may receive more aggressive pruning. Extra pruning also may be needed where trees stand adjacent to exterior lighting to improve nighttime visibility.

An arborist also can make sure trees do their best with proper fertilization. On many corporate properties, much of the quality topsoil has been removed as part of development, leaving few natural nutrients to support tree nourishment. Additionally, if trees receive too much or too little hydration from the landscaping watering schedule, an expert can recommend adjustments to the maintenance plan.

In addition, an arborist can identify disease and insect threats early and take appropriate action to return a tree to the best possible health.

Commercial properties often receive a lot of attention to landscaping upon initial tenancy, but the bare minimum is applied toward continuing maintenance once landscaping is complete. Ultimately, well-kept trees create a more pleasant environment for both employees and patrons and provide the appearance of a more prosperous place of business.
