Company founder John Davey believed tree care is a science, and the original business plan included a technical development and research department to bring the leading science of the day to our customer’s property via our field service teams.

Daveys’ technical advisors and scientists guide field service teams in diagnosing and prescribing the best products, application procedure, and pest and disease cultural practices to be used at the customer site.

Davey technical teams are leaders in the green industry. Each Davey scientist is an expert in a particular aspect of plant care and a specific geographic region. Our experts, who are scientists with advanced degrees in fields such as entomology, horticulture, urban forestry, forestry, turf, agronomy, plant pathology, plant physiology, computer science and botany, train our technicians and serve as resources to address the specific needs of our customers.

Field teams have intranet access to our multimedia reference materials, including detailed photos, videos, and databases to properly diagnose a customer’s lawn or tree care issues.

In addition to pathology and materials expertise, Davey teams develop new technologies used to assist governments and large commercial properties inventory, analyze, and quantify the environmental services benefits their tree populations provides. Perhaps the best example of this is Davey’s leadership role as the technical transfer base for the national iTree project, a public/private urban forestry research collaborative with the USDA Forest Service, National Arbor Day Foundation, and Society of Municipal Arborists, to improve the condition and extent of America’s urban forest resource.
