Webster Electric Cooperative in Missouri turned to Davey Resource Group (DRG) to update its electric work orders, which included adding new customers and electric line construction to its computer mapping system.
Webster Electric, based in Marshfield, Mo., implemented a geographic information system and global positioning system (GPS) field inventory in 2002 with the help of DRG partner UAI, Inc. and the UtilityCenterÒ software. However, the cooperative encountered the challenge of keeping the system up to date and the information accurate.
From April to August 2006, two DRG field technicians helped Webster Electric organize the backlog of work orders. Through this process, they made appropriate changes to the existing database, such as assembly units and meter and pole information, by updating information on pen-based computers while in the field. DRG used a GPS to plot a sub-meter position for all newly installed electric poles, underground facilities and new customer meters.
New electric facilities were mapped and uploaded to Webster Electric’s server in a layer directly within UtilityCenter that synchronized changes to all users on the network.
Webster Electric is a Touchstone Energy cooperative that serves about 18,000 member-owners in seven Missouri counties, including Webster, Greene, Christian, Dallas, Wright, Douglas, and Laclede.
