Northeast Ohio Regional Sewer District, Ohio:
Doan Brook Urban Watershed Study

Scientists use GPS technology to collect field data, which are incorporated into a GIS database
Doan Brook is a short, nine-mile-long stream in Northeast Ohio. It flows through the communities of Beachwood, Cleveland, Cleveland Heights, Shaker Heights, and University Heights before reaching Lake Erie. The watershed consists of about 8,000 acres of urban land. Like most city streams, it is subject to significant flooding and wet weather water quality problems.

Davey Resource Group teamed with Montgomery Watson and the Northeast Ohio Regional Sewer District to improve the water quality and restore the aquatic life habitat of the brook. Davey sampled and evaluated fish and macroinvertebrate communities and habitat data to determine overall water quality of Doan Brook. Based on the results of our field investigations, Davey Resource Group scientists provided ecological-based alternatives to improve water quality in the brook as well as bioengineering solutions to prevent erosion and to restore degraded physical habitats.
