Davey Resource Group surveyed more than 950,000 poles in Florida to update existing joint-use information and verify pole rental fees for electric utility Progress Energy (PE).
The Davey team, which included 15 inspectors, three quality control technicians and two coordinators, began counting attachments on PE poles in January 2006. There were approximately 50 companies we inspected for attachment counts on the poles, including cable, television, telephone and fiber optic businesses. On average, 9 out of 10 poles had attachments.
Data was collected on pen-based computers using Davey Work Planning Software and uploaded each night to the Davey ROWKeeper website, which allowed instant access to the information. Overall work was completed in September 2006.
PE, headquartered in Raleigh, N.C., is a Fortune 250 diversified energy company with more than 24,000 megawatts of generation capacity. The company's holdings include two electric utilities serving approximately 3 million customers in North Carolina, South Carolina and Florida. PE also includes non-regulated operations covering competitive generation, energy marketing, natural gas production and fuel extraction.
