Booth Run is a 7.56-mile tributary to Pymatuning Creek in the Shenango River watershed. The watercourse is a tributary to Shenango Reservoir, a source of drinking water and recreation for the watershed.
A combination of hydromodification, development in the natural floodplain, and the removal of riparian vegetation in agricultural areas has led to the slow, but ongoing degradation of this small stream, and, in turn, the Shenango Reservoir.
Together, Davey Resource Group and Oxbow River and Stream Restoration developed a conceptual restoration plan for Booth Run. Davey collected baseline biological data and, with Oxbow, collected physical stream data based on Rosgen Stream Classification methodology. Davey evaluated aquatic habitat, mapped vegetation communities within the riparian corridor, and analyzed benthic macroinvertebrate and fish communities. Oxbow analyzed physical stream data collected in the first phase and, together with Davey, developed strategies to restore the most degraded reaches.
