When Scott Mendel took his best friend’s advice and accepted a job with Davey Tree, he didn’t realize he was beginning a successful career with the industry leader.

He began as a Davey groundsman in 2005 – almost a year to the day after his friend, Riley Burns, started with the company. Mendel now works as a Residential Services foreman in East Toronto. He previously drove a skidder for a local logger but now oversees large projects that require cranes.

"On the jobs, several Davey members come together to make sure everything runs smoothly," Mendel says. "I work hard and do my best to make sure things are done right."

At one particular site, he made sure his critical hand signals to a 250,000-ton crane operator were clear as the machine reached over three homes to remove a 100-foot oak. Experiences such as these make the job rewarding, Mendel says.

"I really feel I’m building a great future with the company," he says.
